As an Independent Celebrant and former Funeral Director I have over 22 years of experience in the bereavement profession. I believe that traditional funerals or celebration of life ceremonies should bring comfort to families and friends of those who have passed away.

I always ask what you’d like to be included in the ceremony and what your loved one/friend would have wanted. We aren’t all the same and every end of life ceremony I conduct is different, so there is no “same script, just change the names”. There may be similarities in certain parts of the service, but as I’ve always said, there are only so many ways we can welcome people to the service and thank them for coming. However, the story of your loved one’s or friend’s life (or eulogy as it’s sometimes known) is personally written from beginning to end and is intertwined with your own memories and stories of the person you’ve lost.

I can conduct life ceremonies at any venue, whether that is a more traditional venue of a crematorium, funeral parlour or graveside, to a village hall, hotel, or a favourite place. Whatever the venue, it’s all about your loved one and you. 

I will always explain how the ceremony will be conducted and the timeline of what happens and when. You will also see this in the draft script of the ceremony that I send over to you, and this also give you an opportunity to make changes or additions and to highlight any typos or errors I may have made. I’m not perfect, so errors do happen and when I’ve written the ceremony they don’t always jump out at me, but the important thing is that we fix them before the day and everything is exactly as it should be.

I’m always here to answer any questions you may have and work closely with the funeral director to make sure that your loved one’s life ceremony is a reflection of them and their personality and character shines through.
