Caledonian Celebrant Terms and Conditions for Legal Wedding Ceremony Bookings
This contract is issued by Caledonian Celebrant and forms an agreement between Laura Gordon (Caledonian Celebrant) and the Couple.
Responsibilities of the Marriage Celebrant
Laura Gordon will provide a professional service at all times, ensuring the ceremony is written and conducted in a dignified, meaningful, and personal manner. She will adhere to the Open Beliefs Scotland Code of Conduct.
Laura Gordon is authorised by the Registrar General and National Records of Scotland to solemnise marriages in Scotland. All marriages solemnised by her are legally binding and recognised.
Laura Gordon will ensure the marriage is solemnised in accordance with the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977, and that the ceremony takes place in a safe and dignified location.
She is legally required to obtain and verify the marriage schedule before the ceremony begins.
Laura Gordon will ensure that the marriage schedule is signed correctly by the couple and witnesses using permanent black ink.
Any amendments to the marriage schedule must be made and initialled in permanent black ink, except for the date and place of the ceremony, which cannot be changed without the Registrar’s permission.
In the unlikely event that Laura Gordon becomes unavailable, she will ensure a legally authorised celebrant replaces her for the ceremony.
Responsibilities of the Couple
The couple must contact the relevant Registrar in the district where the marriage is to take place at least 10–12 weeks before the wedding date, and no later than 29 days prior, to submit the Marriage Notice forms (M10) and provide required identification. If either partner is not a British citizen, it is their responsibility to provide the correct documentation to legally marry in Scotland.
The couple must inform the Registrar that the marriage will be solemnised by Laura Gordon, Marriage Celebrant, Open Beliefs Scotland by completing Section F of the M10 form. Statutory fees payable to the Registrar are in addition to the agreed fees for Laura Gordon.
The couple must collect the marriage schedule from the Registrar during the week before the ceremony and deliver it to Laura Gordon on the day. The ceremony cannot legally proceed without the schedule.
The couple must inform the Registrar and Laura Gordon in advance if there is any possibility the ceremony will not take place on the date or at the place specified.
The couple is responsible for safeguarding the marriage schedule after the ceremony and returning it to the Registrar within three days to ensure the marriage is legally registered.
The couple must pay the agreed deposit of £200, of which £100 is non-refundable and £100 refundable up to 90 days before the ceremony. Cancellations within 90 days result in loss of the full £200 deposit. Cancellations within 30 days require full payment of the agreed fee.
Terms and Conditions for Other Ceremony Bookings
This contract is issued by Laura Gordon, Caledonian Celebrant, and is an agreement between Laura Gordon and the client.
Responsibilities of the Celebrant
Laura Gordon will provide a professional service at all times, ensuring the ceremony is dignified, meaningful, and personal.
She will adhere to the Open Beliefs Scotland Code of Conduct.
The ceremony will take place on the date and at the location specified by the client.
If Laura Gordon becomes unavailable, she will arrange for another celebrant or officiant to take her place.
Responsibilities of the Client
The client must inform Laura Gordon in advance if there is any possibility that the ceremony may not take place on the agreed date or at the agreed location.
Right to Cancel
You have the right to cancel this contract with Laura Gordon, Caledonian Celebrant, within 14 days without giving any reason. The cancellation period expires 14 days after the date the contract is agreed.
To cancel, please send a clear statement by email to caledonian-celebrant@live.co.uk before the 14-day period expires.
You may also cancel at any time after 14 days by providing written notice.
Cancellations less than 90 days before the ceremony will result in loss of the £200 deposit. Cancellations less than 30 days before the ceremony require full payment of the agreed costs.
If the ceremony is postponed, the original 12-week cancellation policy applies from the original ceremony date.
If you postpone your ceremony, Laura Gordon will honour the new date or, if unavailable, help to find a suitable replacement celebrant.
